Roti Canai

Today I shall teach you decent folks on how to make your very own Roti Canai. I think most Malaysians already know the ways, but heck, just post it anyway. You can never know who lurks out there with no Roti Canai making skills (like me!) heheheh...

Ok here's what you need:

600g Plain Wheat Flour

1tsp salt

1cup warm water/ milk

1/2cup ghee / margarine

1 egg

1 tsp sugar

How to do it:

  1. sift the flour and salt together

  2. knead flour, egg, sugar and ghee with water/milk (a little by little so that the dough is moderately soft and easy to handle.)

  3. leave 2-3 hours overnight

  4. divide dough into 4 equal parts

  5. shape them into balls

  6. flatten each ball with rolling pin and fold in the ghee /margarine.

  7. roll up the dough and press it into a coil. Pressing one open end onto the top.

  8. roll it again as thin as possible into a round shape.

  9. Beginning at one of the open ends, roll up dough tightly and coil it again as before.

  10. Roll out dough slowly onto lightly floured surface (to ensure air is not forced out).

  11. Heat a pan and bake individually over a moderate heat.

  12. Turn it over and spread a little ghee on it until both sides are golden brown.

There you go! Your own Roti Canai! Oh when you serve, remember to serve with curry to give the extra spicy taste.

LOL... I lack this skill too! Btw, no need to throw the dough up into the air and flip meh? LOL

well....
if you really want to do it ala Indian style, I guess you can try a flip or two LOL!!

otherwise, just flatten it on the pan and bake.
