Penang Asam Laksa

When asked about popular foods in Malaysia, Penang will often get top-rated for delicious soups and noodles such as Penang Fried Kuey Tiao, Penang Kuey Tiao soup, Penang Laksa, Penang Hokkien Mee, and so many more. Today, I will introduce a famous dish that has gained popularity over the century, which is Penang Asam Laksa.

Asam Laksa is a sour fish-base soup. Unlike Curry Laksa, which is hot and spicy, Asam is also sweet and sour at taste. Asam is a Malay word for Tamarind, which is usually added as stock to give the soup its sour taste. The main ingredients of the dish consist of shredded kembung fish or mackerel, and finely sliced vegetables including onions, pineapple, cucumber, lettuce, red chillis, mint leaves, and pink ginger buds. It is normally served with either thick or thin rice noodles depending on the customers' taste, and topped with shrimp paste, or "hae go" to give the dish a sweet taste.

The Asam Laksa is extremely popular. You can find it in almost every stalls and food courts all over Malaysia. However, the most famous of all is from the original hawker stall outside the Air Itam market somewhere near towards the Kek Lok Si temple.

So try it out, at your nearest stall selling Penang Asam Laksa, or head towars Penang for a soury savoury. Brought to you by I,Malaysian!. We share, we care.

Well, i'm from penang and i personally think that if you want to taste the real asam laksa, don't bother trying other stalls stating
"penang asam laksa" at other states for no matter how they prepare, you will not get the unique taste.

Though i might sound "lan si" but this is true. 5 years of life in johor and all i can say is: PENANG FOOD IS ALWAYS THE BEST!

yes, colourful world. I can agree with you.

no matter how hard people try, the unique taste can only be found at the original stall selling the Laksa.

Penang food will always be the best! but the distance is really far away for some people especially of those living at the southern states of West Malaysia.

Well, if you wanna get a hint on how Asam Laksa tastes like, go ahead to the nearest stall. But if you REALLY wanna try the BEST Laksa, Please, i urge you, go to Penang~ :)

thanks for your comment, colourful world. have a nice day =D
